Sufi Wisdom Tradition

The inner/esoteric dimension of Islam.

The inner/esoteric dimension of Islam. Al-Ghazālī's 'Mishkāt al-Anwār' established that reason was the penultimate faculty — direct tasting (dhawq) of reality surpassed it. Ibn ʿArabī's wahdat al-wujūd (unity of being) and the concept of barzakh (imagination as ontologically real intermediate realm) represent perhaps the most sophisticated epistemology of imagination ever developed. Rumi's poetry is the most popular expression; Ibn ʿArabī's metaphysics is the deepest. The Sufi maqāmāt (stations) map precisely onto the Sophorganon's cognitive hierarchy.
