Developmental Origins of Health and Disease (DOHaD)

The field holding that conditions in the womb and early life program lifelong health and disease risk. Founded on David Barker's epidemiology (Hertfordshire and Southampton studies, 1986 onward: low birth weight predicting later heart disease), widened by Gluckman and Hanson's predictive adaptive responses and by studies of prenatal famine such as the Dutch Hunger Winter.

RENAISSANCE 3.0 POSITION: the scientific evidence that the mother's wall writes into the body. Our First Membrane chapter (Living Pledge dossier, 6 Oct 2026) reads it as the first carematrix at work: the womb is not only a shelter but the first intake whose chemistry the body keeps.
